Busy Beacon week

Eric school was hopping with activity this week and I was lucky enough to get to enjoy a lot of the new experiences with him. Eric's love of movement combined with his ability to follow directions and sequence makes him a natural in his weekly dance class with teacher Carol.

The kids classes k-5 showed the progression of what is learned through her dance program and it goes  beyond just moves. They learn geology, teamwork, problem solving, and math all through dance. They also get to be creative with patterns. What I was really amazed by was each kid expressed themselves in their own way and then out their expressions together to create and entire ensemble of movement.

Here we watch Eric class perform their class warm-up.

Next up in Eric's week of activities was the 100th day of school celebration. Eric has been building this up for a while and invited me to participate in the celebration. How could I refuse?!

I joined in the math portion of the celebration to help in counting to 100 in many different ways: by ones, tens, the even fives. Every child in the class brought in 100 of something. The kids were so excited to share what the had selected and they each got to say a little something about their choice. They were so proud of what they brought.

Here is Eric counting his 100 "monies" with the class.
